MATERIAL CARE GUIDE

To ensure your BIRCHE pieces retain their character and quality for years to come, we have created this guide to help you understand the materials we work with and how to care for them. With proper care and regular maintenance, the natural beauty, finish, and integrity of each piece can be preserved through everyday use.

Unless otherwise specified, all BIRCHE pieces are intended for indoor use. We recommend regular dusting and gentle cleaning to maintain their appearance and finish over time.

How to care: Oiled wood

To preserve the natural character and finish of your BIRCHE pieces, we recommend re-oiling approximately twice a year with a natural wood oil or hard wax oil.

For regular cleaning, use a soft cloth lightly dampened with clean water. Avoid harsh cleaners and chemicals, which may affect the wood’s natural finish.

OILING TREATMENT
1.
Clean the surface with a soft cloth lightly dampened with warm water.
2. Once completely dry, apply a small amount of oil to a clean cloth or sponge. Do not pour oil directly onto the wood.
3. Work the oil into the wood following the direction of the grain, covering the entire surface evenly.
4. Allow the oil to absorb for approximately 20 minutes, then remove any excess with a clean, dry cloth.
5. Gently buff the surface until an even finish is achieved, then allow it to dry completely.

PLEASE NOTE: that wood edges may require more frequent oiling, particularly during dry months, to prevent dryness and cracking. Minor scratches can be lightly sanded and re-oiled.

Changes in humidity may cause natural movement, gaps, or cracks. Oil both sides where accessible for a more balanced finish.

How to Care: Stained or Lacquered Wood

To maintain the finish of stained or lacquered wood, we recommend regular dusting and gentle cleaning. Unless stated otherwise, all pieces are intended for indoor use.

Use a soft cloth to remove dust and marks. For light stains, wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid chemical cleaners and prolonged contact with moisture, alcohol, food, or cosmetics.

For scratches, lightly sand the affected area and reapply a suitable wood stain. Always test any treatment on an inconspicuous area first.

PLEASE NOTE that natural wood is unique by nature. Variations in grain, tone, and texture are inherent to the material and will develop a distinctive patina over time.

How to Care: Wood

Wood is a timeless, enduring material chosen for its natural beauty and lasting character. Each piece carries its own unique grain, tone, and texture, making every BIRCHE product distinctly its own. Every plank is carefully selected to ensure the character of the wood is preserved.
